Despite its seeming absolute power, science still can't explain everything. Scientists can't provide any law of nature backing the presence of ghosts on photographs, the ability of certain individuals to read people’s minds, and the bright light at the end of a dark tunnel usually seen by those undergoing an out of body experience.

Such paranormal activity is the subject of study of parapsychology. In this field, paranormal activity is investigated and assessed for both validity and veracity. Paranormal activity can be divided into three basic groups: mental, physical, and out of body phenomena.

Mental Phenomena cover paranormal activity perceived by the human mind. Paranormal evidence can be found in people who are able to:

• read someone else’s mind (Telepathic)

• perceive spirit beings or entities through inner sight (Clairvoyant)

• hear spirits or things which have no known source (Clairaudient)

• smell things that aren't present (Clairalient)

• taste things without putting anything into their mouths (Clairgustant)

• intuitively feel or know things or spirit entities (Clairsentient)

• see the future (Precognizant)

• see someone else’s past (Post-cognizant)

• see an object’s history by mere feeling or impression (Psychometric)

Physical phenomena cover paranormal activities that are controlled by an entity, or are made to happen through the power of the human mind. Paranormal evidence can be found in:

• people who can make objects move with their mind (psychokinesis)

• poltergeists, or entities that can move objects and do damage

• people who can set objects on fire with only mind power (pyrokinesis)

• sicknesses or bodily conditions more psychological than physical in cause and nature (psychogenesis)

• people who are able to communicate with entities, or even be possessed by them to enable direct communication with the living (mediumship)

Lastly, the out of body and near death experiences also constitutes paranormal phenomena. Paranormal evidence can be found in people who undergo an experience in which they find themselves:

• Out of their bodies, such that they can visit faraway places, or even make themselves seen to people without moving from where they initially stand

• Near death, such that they usually meet dead relatives, or are given visions of the afterlife, before being brought back to their bodies again.

Such phenomena are usually treated with skepticism, so it would be best to maintain an open mind when reading paranormal investigations or cases of paranormal phenomena. Parapsychology is yet a young field, and its methods are still under constant criticism and scrutiny.
